Chairmaking Intensives

The chairmaking intensives are 14 days of uninterrupted time where you will be provided the tools, materials, and support to further your personal chairmaking goals. Each session is limited to three people, and each person will have their own bench and workspace.

Intensives are fundamentally different than a class in that they are intended for people with some chairmaking (or green woodworking) experience, and allow you to structure your own time. You will be provided with as much support as you’d like around process and technique as you make every part of your chair - turnings, split parts, bent parts, and seats. Arriving prepared with clear goals for your time during an intensive is important and enrollment is though an application process. In contrast, chairmaking classes are structured to successfully guide someone with any level of experience through a chairmaking project. Classes range from 5 to 7 days, and are structured with daily group demonstrations and goals.

This intensive is priced to include material for one to two chairs, which is a reasonable amount of work for the duration of the workshop. It does not include materials for making jigs or design work. Focusing on a single complex chair from start to finish or making a couple simpler chairs are potential ways of structuring the intensive.
