This seven day class covers the fundamentals of ladderback chairmaking, incorporates green woodworking principals and is an opportunity to explore a mix of machine and hand tool processes. Students choose to spend the week making an Appalachian style ladderback side chair or arm chair - a design that originated as a collaboration between Eric Cannizzaro and Jeff Lefkowitz in 2019.
This class runs at a relaxed pace and is open to all experience levels. There will be a strong emphasis on building skills and with your hands and eyes as you learn to shape parts with the drawknife and spokeshave.
Everyone can expect to leave with their chair fully assembled by the end of the class, including a clear or milk paint finish, and a woven seat.
NOTE: Students should purchase and bring with them their own seating material and milk paint (see our resources page for more information).
