Instructor: Jolynn Santiago
Level: Mixed Level
Skills: Ideation, various enameling techniques
Capacity: 3
Do you remember coloring outside the lines as a child? A time when you were encouraged to play and follow your curiosity?
This class draws from enameling techniques developed through studio play, with students encouraged to tap into that same sense of curiosity. Treating enamel as a material, making discoveries, and recording their findings. Students will investigate the materiality of enamel—allowing it to lead the way to new methods of working. I will demonstrate techniques I’ve learned and developed to support your learning. For instance, we’ll approach enamel like sand—making impressions with tools at hand, scratching into the surface with twigs, and adding water to create dimension, allowing the process itself to reveal new ways of working. Students will work on four 2” x 2” pre-cut copper blanks, treating each side as a small canvas for exploration.
Each day will begin with a short color walk. Students will absorb their surroundings and return to the studio to record their visuals from memory. This is an open-ended experience where you will walk away with samples, notes, and a greater understanding of enamel.
When you register, you will receive an automated email with safety and logistics information.
