Instructor: Jolynn Santiago
Level: Beginner — No prior experience is necessary
Skills: Riveting, sawing, texturing, forming, annealing (softening metal), patination (applying color to metal)
Capacity: 4
In this class, you will learn the basic metalsmithing techniques while creating a copper barrette and brooch (pin). You will learn to saw, texture, and form copper, then connect your pieces using handmade wire rivets.
Riveting joins materials without soldering. By hammering each end of a short piece of wire into a small head to resemble a nail, we will create secure connections that can also become decorative elements in your designs. For example, wooden handles are often connected to knives using rivets.
You will develop foundational metalworking skills and explore how shape, texture, and color work together to create a layered or dimensional surface. On the final day, we will share and discuss the finished projects as a group.
We will also cover tools, materials, and a small home setup for those who wish to continue practicing.
Please note our current Cancellation Policy
$30.00 material fee included.
