We have been growing this variety since 2022 and use it for living fences, and basketry. Coppiced plants produce rods in the 4 ‘- 6’ range, shorter than most varieties we grow (Hinesburg Green is the shortest). We grow it for basketry because of its bark color is unique among the varieties we grow.
To avoid confusion, this is not S. purpurea ‘Americana’. This variety is a hybrid of of at least two native North American willows. We grow plants that originated from Vermont Willow Nursery.
