A great grower in our location. Slightly shorter than Bleu and Oka, taller than Packing Twine. Our initial cuttings came from Lakeshore Willows in Ontario, CA. For clarity, this is a variety of S. purpurea, not to be confused with S. x ‘americana’ which is a native North American cultivar of disputed origin.
The only apparent reference to this purpurea cultivar in the University of Connecticut Checklist for Cultivars of Salix (2015) is a note at the end of the S. x ‘americana’ entry: “there is also an unresolved name in the US trade: S. purpurea L. ‘Americana’.”
